Key Projects: Synthesis of acrylamide based polymer, copolymers, terpolymers and tetrapolymers for Chemical Enhanced Oil Recovery Programme Different polymers were synthesized using acrylamide, sodium acrylate, 2-acrylamido-2-methylpropane sulfonic acid, N-vinyl pyrrolidone. The polymers were characterized for their physical properties and application tests done in water based mud and oil based mud. Synthesis of polymeric additives for drilling fluid Different additives were synthesized which would impart properties like breakers in fracturing fluid, viscosifiers, deflocculants, clay stabilizers, emulsifiers, corrosion inhibitors, fluid loss additives. Synthesis of copolymers for use as pour point depressants in lubricating oils Esterified copolymers of different compositions were synthesized and added to base oils to the extent of 0.1%. Depression of pour point with the synthesized polymers were found to be better than the pour point additives available commercially. Sulphonation of vegetable oils Vegetable oils were sulphonated to act as lubricants in high hardness brine.? Coordinator-ISMS (Information Security and Management System) of Advanced Materials and Process Technology Centre Nov 2004 ? Apr 2009 Company Name: Crompton Greaves Pvt.Ltd. Job Profile: Key Projects Optimization of process and Composition for Epoxy Casting Of Cast Resin Transformer through application of Design of Experiments (DOE): ?DOE was applied to reduce the number of experiments drastically without losing any data. There were 3 factors considered at 2 levels. Experiments were performed with all the combinations of the factors.? Development of Paper and Resin Insulation System for Resin Impregnated Paper (RIP) Bushing: ?RIP bushings have a resin impregnated condenser core that is in contact with the transformer oil. This technology is used in combination with either porcelain or silicon insulators for a completely dry construction.? Resin Encapsulation of BLDC Motor: Electrical coils and components are sometimes encapsulated ?with thermosets for protection from operating environments and to provide electrical insulation and thermal dissipation. With their good electrical properties, mould flow characteristics and low cost, thermosets such as epoxies, phenolics, and polyesters are the major encapsulation resins used in coil / component encapsulation.? Identification, characterisation and optimisation of formulation of resin insulation system for Distribution Transformer: Transformers meant for outdoor application have the core encapsulated with either polyester resin or cycloaliphatic epoxy resin. Polyester resins are readily available which are meant for outdoor application but they are limited to Class B; i.e. 130 degrees centigrade temperature rise. Higher rating transformers would have a temperature rise in the range of 150?160 degree centigrade. Hence, it was necessary to modify polyester resin which could accommodate 150 ? 160? degree centigrade temperature rise and tailor it to be suitable for outdoor application. Cure schedule was determined to obtain composites with optimum properties. The composites were then characterised or physical, mechanical, thermal and electrical properties. Preparation of nanocomposites based on epoxy and unsaturated polyester resins: Nanocomposites exhibit remarkable improvements in mechanical, barrier and thermal (HDT) properties. 3 to 5% incorporation of nanoparticles in a resin matrix can improve the above mentioned properties tremendously. Composites were prepared with epoxy and unsaturated polyester resin matrix with nano clay incorporation and tested for improvement in properties like thermal conductivity, thermal class and shrinkage. Development of nano based anticorrosive coating: Nanoparticles are known to behave differently from micro or macro sized particles and can lead to tremendous improvements in properties not attainable by conventional means.. MMT was selected to improve anticorrosive property of coatings through its barrier mechanism. Special technique was used to disperse the MMT in the resin. The formulated paint was characterised for all mechanical, optical, chemical and physical properties. The developed nano paint system exhibited superior performance at a lower cost. Improvement of thermal conductivity of electrically insulating composite High thermal conductivity and very low electrical conductivity are the contradictory parameters desired for insulation systems for electrical apparatuses.. Thermal conductivity of the composite insulation was significantly improved using a mixed filler system processed by a special technique which also resulted in very low shrinkage during curing. The combined effect of the above two properties resulted in composites which could dissipate heat quickly, thereby enhancing the life of the insulation. State of the Art Report on Development of nano based highly reflective coating Reflectivity is the term used to indicate the percentage of reflected light from a painted surface. It is usually considered as a function of colour and specular gloss..Reflective coatings typically consist of a light-transmitting binder and light-reflecting particles. When light falls on a coated surface, it undergoes diffuse and/or specular reflection. The more the specular component dominates over the diffuse component, the more reflective the coated surface appears to be because there is hardly any loss of light as all the light originating from the light source is reflected to the exterior directly.? Papers and Presentations: Presented a paper titled 'Nanotechnology - an approach to develop nano based anticorrosive paints' at the international conference on ' Advances in Polymer Science and Technology ' organised jointly by IIT Delhi and Asian Polymer Association. Nominated as ?the best Graduate Engineer Trainee? out of a batch of 60 Graduate and Management trainees of the year 2004-05. Given one year subscription of ?Modern Plastics? for this achievement. Received the ?Best Presentation Award? for my project titled ?Optimization of process and Composition for Epoxy Casting of Cast Resin Transformer through application of Design of Experiments (DOE)?. Received an ?Appreciation Certificate? from Corporate R & D, Crompton Greaves for my outstanding contribution to the cost reduction of Cast Resin Transformer. Other Work Areas: Future Goals: Searching for an aspiring organization where my knowledge and skills could be used to build innovative technologies. ________________________________________________________________________________________
