Working in the area of highly thermally stable heterocyclic polymers with special interest in polybenzimidazole (PBI) types of polymers. Research deals with the synthesis and characterization of different types of polybenzimidazole homo and copolymers with an objective to establish the structural-property correlation. Studies of aggregation behavior of polybenzimidazole type polymers in polar solvents utilizing photophysical and microscopic techniques. Investigation of thermoreversible gelation of PBI in phosphoric acid (PA).?Post Doctoral Research: Two years (January 2011-July 2013) working experience as a post-doctoral student in a polymer chemistry laboratory, Lund University, Lund, Sweden. Working with highly thermally stable thermoplastic polymer poly ether sulfone (PSU) to establish the connection between macromolecular structure, morphology, and the resulting properties in polymeric materials. The activities in Lund University deals with macromolecular design, synthesis, polymer self-assembly, and material structure and property characterization of polymers. Mainly different PSU based co and block copolymers were synthesized and characterized that form durable membranes which absorb water. These membranes are crucial components of solid-state electrochemical devices and enable water purification technologies such as reverse osmosis and nanofiltration. I had employed different polymerization technique such as anionic, radical, ATRP, condensation and modification techniques (grafting) to prepare polymers membranes with phase separated morphology, and then used different characterization methods such as NMR, FTIR, impedance spectroscopy, AFM, scattering, gravimetry and calorimetry to investigate the structure and properties of these materials.
