Academic projects M.Tech: Materials Engineering Title: Synthesis and Characterization of Poly (Ethylene-Co-Vinyl Acetate-Co-Carbon Monoxide) Terpolymer/Layered Silicate Clay Nanocomposites. Abstract: Poly (ethylene-co-vinyl acetate-co-carbon monoxide) (EVACO)/clay nanocomposites were synthesized by solvent casting and melt mixing method. The X-ray patterns of the montmorillonite ?modified with octadecyl ammonia exhibited d001 peak at 2?=4.03 and corresponding interlayer spacing was found to be 2.05nm.In the XRD pattern of EVACO/clay hybrid prepared by melt mixing method , showing no peaks, leading to a formation of delaminated nanocomposites. The EVACO/clay hybrids prepared by solvent casting method, showing intercalation behavior. The formation of the delaminated nanocomposites was manifested through the enhancement of mechanical and thermal stability.SEM analysis of the EVACO/clay hybrids prepared by solvent casting method showed the distribution and dispersion of the elements of the nanoclay. The nanocomposites containing 5% nanoclay showed the aggregation of the elements which leads to the decrease in the mechanical properties of the nanocomposites. Key words: Nanocomposites, XRD, SEM, Nanoclay, Delamination, Intercalation. Place of Work: National Institute of Technology, Karnataka, Surathkal Academic Guide: Dr. Anandhan Srinivasan, Associate. Bachelor of Engineering: Title: Study on cured tyre defects in JK tyres, Mysore. Abstract: Cured tyre defect means defect occurred on tyre after curing process. The defects may due to faulty compounding, variations in process parameters etc. The main objective of our project is to reduce the defects and increase the % of FTQ. At first, inspected 500 tyres and we found many defects like sidewall blister, light side, light heel, kinked bead etc of these defects the percentages of light side and light heel defects was more in both truck tyre and in LCV tyres. So decided to analyze these defects. After analysis we got satisfactory results. Place of Work: J.K. Tyres Ltd, Mysore Industrial Guide: Mr. Vasudev Rao, GM, J.K Tyres Ltd, Mysore Academic Guide: Ms.Roopa.D, Asst.Professor, SJCE, Mysore Achievements, Activities and Membership: Qualified GATE exam in 2008.
