Academic Projects M.Tech Project: Department of Materials Science and Engineering, IIT Patna, Bihar May 2017 - May 2018 Project Title - Synergetic effect of compatibilizer and nanofillers on physico mechanical properties of incompatible rubber latex blend Supervisor - Dr. Dinesh Kumar Kotnees Methodology - Mechanical blending of two rubber latex materials for enhanced physico mechanical properties Study - Blending of polymer materials give rise to the novel functional properties which is not possible to achieve by an individual latex blend material. The project work is to study the synergetic effect of compatibilizer and nanofillers on the physico mechanical properties of the incompatible latex blend The results found are as follow: Results It has been found that the compatibilizer improve the overall blend properties of the incompatible latex blend of natural rubber and nitrile rubber latex blend The incorporation of nanofillers significantly enhanced the overall physico mechanical properties of the latex blend Publication ?Synergetic effect of compatibilizer and nanoclay on the physico mechanical properties of the incompatible latex blend? Dinesh Kumar(Communicated) B.E Project: Department of Polymer Engineering, MIT Pune, Maharashtra July 2013 - June 2014 Project Title - Polymers in Enhanced Oil Recovery Methodology - Partially hydrolyzed polyacrylamide was prepared by solution polymerization technique. Same technique was used to prepare a co-polymer from methyl methacrylate and acrylic acid Study - The extraction of saturated oil from oil reservoir is a very difficult process. To obtained this saturated oil from the reservoirs special techniques were used. Polymer flooding is one the technique. The project work is the comparative study of the properties of partially hydrolyzed polyacrylamide and co-polymer prepared from methyl methacrylate and acrylic acid. Results - The results found were as follows: It was found that the viscosity of the co-polymer increases with the increase in time. Hence, it was concluded that it is not suitable for polymer flooding. This is due to the formation of hydrogen bonding between acrylic acid and water molecules. Professional Trouble Shooting Cases Example 1 Name of the Customer - Mr. Prashant Sao from Plenumtech Private Limited, Nagpur Nature of the Problem - Nature of the Problem Applications - Medical sector Equipment Used - Injection molding machine (Arburg ALROUNDER 320 TONS), Material used: Polyether Ketone (PEK) Troubleshooting Methodology - The design of the mold was not correct. Initially, the mold was having a direct sprue gate due to which the components were facing problem such as jetting. It was recommended to change the design of the sprue gate by overlap gate. Processing parameters were optimized. Results - The problem was solved after the change in design of the gate and optimizing the parameters Example 2 Name of the Customer - Name of the Customer Nature of the Problem - Shininess and short shot Applications - Laser printer parts Equipment Used - Injection molding machine (Arburg ALROUNDER 320 TONS), Material used? Polyether Ketone (PEK) Troubleshooting Methodology - The process parameters such as injection pressure, melt temperature and mold temperature was optimized to troubleshoot the difficulties in the processing of polyether ketone (PEK) material Results - The problem was solved after adjusting the processing parameters Future Goals: Growth ________________________________________________________________________________________
