PROJECT:

Design, Analysis and Development of Sandwich construction for automotive safety enhancement and manufacturing. 



COMPONENT: Crash bumper 

PROJECT DURATION: 6 Months 

DESCRIPTION: 

Safety of the passenger is the paramount objective of the project work. In view of achieving the objective the design of crash bumper has been taken as a challenging task. To achieve the same Fiber enforced plastics with sandwich construction techniques have been considered for designing the crash bumper. 

For modeling the crash bumper CATIA-V5 is utilized to generate number of models and these models were analyzed with the help of FEA software (MSC Nastran). With consensus, one of those designs have been considered based on the feasibility of manufacturing process and to meet the design objective is considered for manufacturing. 

The crash bumper design is meant for absorbing major part of the impact energy during crash. The present design achieved 29 times more stiffness than the existing PVC bumper and with 51 times more flexurally rigid than PVC design.
