Section Head (R & D, Synthesis, New Technology)
Since Mar 2014
Company Profile: Adhesives manufacturing company.
Job Profile:
Synthesis of various kinds of emulsions for application in construction, wood adhesives, paints and PSA. Developed a method of reacting highly unreactive molecule like allyl-acetate to produce novel vinyl acetate-allyl acetate co-polymer emulsions which to my knowledge is first of its kind. The material has many interesting properties compared to vinyl acetate based homo-polymers and the process is successfully up-scaled to industrial scale production. This polymer is explored for its application in wood adhesives, fabric binder and construction industry.
R & D
2010 to 2014
Company Profile: Manufacturer of grey cement, Ready Mix Concrete (RMC) and white cement.
Job Profile:
Successfully handled the project on synthesis of various vinyl acetate based emulsion co-polymers and convert them to re-dispersible dry powders and finding their application in white cement based products. Developed vinyl acetate-butyl acrylate based RDP suitable for wall care putty application. Worked in high pressure reaction of VAE (vinyl acetate ethylene) to produce emulsion and looking forward to produce RDP. The experiments also include the additives and surface modification of polymer latex particles to obtain suitable RDPs of choice. Working with spray dryers, various anti-caking agents to obtain suitable shelf life of these RDPs is also a part of research.
Research also includes use hydraulic binders especially white cement with various inorganic additives various kinds of polymers to prepare formulations of various kinds of products like.
Cementitious waterproofing systems
Skim Coats Like Wall care Putty (Birla White Wall Care Putty)
Ceramic tile adhesives and building adhesives (Product Developed)
Jointing and grouting mortars (Product Developed)
Special masonry mortars (Textura)
Thermal insulation adhesives and base-coat mortars (Kool And Seal)
Self level-ling mortars and screeds (Product Developed)
Concrete repair mortars and mortars
All types of plasters, renders (Level Plast)
And mineral finishing coats (Wall Care Putty, Coarse Putty)
Lime-cement paints and cement-free powder paints (Color Putty)
Sealing slurries (Kool And Seal)
Joint fillers
Trowel-ling and smoothing compounds.
Apart from this use of XRD in various applications such as complain handling, raw materials consistency investigations, process support like monitoring the cement quality by XRD and particle size analysis, determining the quality of inorganic raw materials from new mines/sources etc. are also done by R&D. Development for application of new and existing products is also part of job
R & D
2003 to 2004
Company Name: Gharda Chemicals Ltd. (Now Known as Solvay Advanced Polymers)
Job Profile:
The research included synthesis of high performance engineering polymers and co-polymers (Various polysulfones and polyether ether ketone). Changes in reaction parameters and conditions like solvents, temperature and catalyst to optimize the process.
Glass and carbon fibre reinforced high performance composites with easy melt process ability (using ZE pilot extruder) were prepared to meet the customers’ demand. Important part of job also included analysis of polymers for mechanical, thermal, rheological and electrical properties using state of art polymer testing facility which I used to handle.
Ph.D Research Work:
“Polymeric Organic Semiconductors: Synthesis, Characterization, All Valence Molecular Orbital calculation and Effect of Nano-Do-pants on Conduction”
Well acquainted with use of powerful, versatile and sophisticated modelling software like Materials Studio by Accelrys (used in Ph.D work).
Salient features of my Ph.D research:
Aim of the study: To propose a simple model that is easy to comprehend and can explain the electrical conductivity in organic semiconducting polymers and associated nano-composites.
Studied electron transport using molecular simulation that includes:
Carried work in the following fields:
Synthesis of azo dyes (used as photo harvesters) and polymers derived from these dyes. The poly-Schiff bases containing aromatic moieties are expected to provide conjugated backbone for the electrical conduction. These polymers thus prepared are photo-conducting.
All valence molecular orbital calculation (AM1 & PM3) of the repeating unit in each polymer to explain the electrical conductivity in light of the propositions made in the premise.
Preparation of polymer nano-composite.
Salient Observations of the Research:
The variation in electrical conductivity of the polymers could be satisfactorily correlated with the difference in energy between HOMO and LUMO, carrier movement and movement of holes.
The polymer nano composites, where there is strong interaction between the polymers and do-pant, showed substantial increase in electrical conductivity.
Use of IR spectral data to diagnose the nature of polymer-do-pant interaction.
Publications:
