PROJECT DETAILS
Kaizen Project: A kaizen project was done in Moser Baer India Ltd, during my In-plant training period on COST SAVING [approximately 80,000 Rs /annum] by removing, dropping of fresh raw materials from the Gravicolor loader and Blender by covering the gaps found in it with a Tin plate and a screw, which was accepted by the kaizen committee for Implementation.

Paper Presented on: High Tech Polymer (Polymers in Compact Disc)
Description: Today, Compact discs are still the most convenient & common source of data storage world wide .The downfall of this technology is that, data can be easily lost or damaged. Improving the durability of CD’s would make this technology more reliable. The disc is made up of polycarbonate raw material and stamped with grooves or pits during the injection process which is in the form of spiral track. This track is coated by an Organic dye (recording layer) on which data’s are written. Later, sputtering process is carried out which uses a reflective material (silver, gold, aluminum) for reflecting the laser beam from the reading surface. A lacquer coating is done which protects the reflecting layers and also acts as a bonding agent for printing. Finally edge washing is done and the disc is UV dried. If the surface of the CD is scratched or has any kind of displacement, the laser is not reflected properly. Deep or bunch scratches may create data error. By increasing the robustness of CD’s and reducing the frequency of scratches, this technology can be made more reliable.

Paper Presented on: Bio Degradable Polymers
Description: Synthetic plastics were on one of the biggest threats to the environment today. The most promising solution to this problem is the prospect of bio-degradable polymers. In this study, biopolymers like starch and gelatin are blended with lignin which is one of the most commonly available natural materials. This paper reports the preparation and results of tensile and water absorption test of different lignum-starch, lignin-gelatin, and starch-gelatin-lignin polymer films. All the materials used for the polymer are bio-derived and completely bio degradable. Solution blending followed by curing was the method adopted for the preparation of the films. It is absorbed that starch-lignin film and gelatin-lignin films are highly hydrophilic and also exhibit impressive tensile strength.

Project Title:Petroleum Engineering
Description: The project work was done on Petroleum refining and various processes involved in it. It consists of a complete study about the refinery process. The Naturally found crude oil is taken out from the earth crust, which is then processed in the fractional distillation to yield different fractions and finally converted into desired specific products, the process is called “Refining of crude oil”.Petro-rock, oleum-oil is dark greenish brown, viscous oil is usually found floating upon a layer of brine and has a layer of gas on top. Crude oil is very rich in hydrocarbons. It also plays a vital role in polymer industry, oil extraction process, etc.
