Job Profile:
Development of Tribo-materials from High Performance Engineering Thermoplastics
Technical Expertise:
Formulation and fabrication of polymer-clay nano-composites
Characterization of composites for thermal and mechanical properties.
Rheological characterization of polymer nano-composites
Tribo-performance evaluation of polymers and their composites in various wear modes such as adhesive, abrasive, fretting, reciprocating, erosive etc.
Failure analysis of worn surfaces with the help of Optical Microscopy, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), EDAX etc.
Correlation studies between tribo-properties and mechanical properties of polymers and their composites.
Analysis of data using various mathematical techniques for example Buckingham's dimensional analysis method (to quantify the contribution of material parameters on wear performance) and statistical analysis technique to find out the influence of selected parameters and their interactions on the properties of polymers and their composites.
Essence Of The Research Work:
Studied the abrasive wear performance of various nylons (PAs) at different loads and counter-face roughness and analysed the wear mechanisms using SEM
Developed a non-linear wear equation based on dimensional analysis technique using Buckingham's theorem and analysed the correlation between various material properties and the abrasive wear behaviour of the PAs.
Investigated the erosive wear behaviour of various PAs at different impact angles, different impinging velocities and at different dozes of erodent. In this case also better correlation was observed between erosive wear rate and mechanical properties of PAs. Also studied the effect of water absorption on the erosive wear behaviour of PA6 and PA12 at two different impact angles.
Statistical analysis of abrasive wear data of Aramid fabric reinforced PES composites to find out the extent of contribution of operating parameters and their interaction on abrasive wear performance of PES.
Developed polyamide 6 (PA 6) nano-composites with varying amount of organo modified montmorillonite (clay).
Currently investigating the rheological properties of polypropylene-clay nano-composites
