Work Experience

Project Intern
November 07 to May 08
Worked with John F Welch Technology Centre, Steam Turbines, COE, Buckets & Rotor Division, Bangalore
As part of curriculum in 2nd year Master of Engineering, worked on project Optimization of Dovetail Profile for Turbines. A failed Tangential entry dovetail was chosen and optimization of key parameters was done so as to reduce the stresses developed as per the design requirements. The optimized geometry was found to be safe. The obtained profile will be used as a replacement for Axial entry dovetails hence saving cost.

Project Graduate Trainee Advanced Composites Division
6-10-05 to 4-8-06
Worked with National Aerospace Laboratories, Bangalore
The projects involved include:
Design and Development of Iso-grid / Iso-truss structure for Aircraft Wing
Design of Dorsal antenna unit for Embraer Aircraft
Testing of Smart Materials under various environmental conditions (Smart Lab)
The role in Iso-grid / Iso-truss structure design was to design the Iso-grid structure made of Carbon fibre composites (CFCs) for accommodating the aerofoil contour of the Wing and also designing a joint (CFCs) which can accommodate 9 Iso-truss members. The Dorsal unit is a unit which is used to detect the enemy aircrafts. Role in Dorsal unit was to prepare the design drawings for the body parts using Carbon fibre composites; and Smart Materials tensile testing was done under various environmental conditions and theoretical calculations for convection effect on the SMA wire under humid condition were done.

UG PROJECT 1:
As part of curriculum in 3rd year Bachelor of Engineering, worked on project Fabrication and Tensile Testing of Glass Fiber Reinforced Plastics [GFRPs]. Tensile specimens were fabricated with various fibre angle orientations. All these specimens were tested and results were compared.

UG PROJECT 2:
As part of curriculum in 4th year Bachelor of Engineering, worked on project Analysis and Fabrication of Laminate for a Composite Rotor Disc. Aluminum rotor and Carbon fibre rotor for various speeds were analyzed and comparison was drawn. The composite rotor fabrication required the fibres to be oriented in hoop and radial direction for which a special knitting fixture was designed and developed and this was used to demonstrate the fabrication of a few laminas. The project was carried out at National Aerospace Laboratories (NAL), Propulsion Division, Bangalore.
