Academic Project:
Ph.D. Thesis:
Title: Studies of Polybutadiene diol based Water Dispersible Polyurethanes and their Nanocomposites
Period: Dec 2010 to Nov 2015
Supervisor: Prof. Tushar Jana
Description: It included synthesis and study of Polyurethanes (PUs) with enhanced physical properties for use as coatings and various applications. Developed novel methods to synthesis Water Dispersible Polyurethanes (WDPU) from butadiene diols, and also developed nanocomposites of WDPU with layered silicates and TiO2 (core)/SiO2 (shell) nanocomposites. Conducted study on improvement in Thermomechanical and Hydrophobic properties of WDPU, which are the important properties of the coating materials. Also, focused on the synthesis of segmented PU-copolymers and study of nanophase separation using modern instrumental techniques such as SAX and DMA, which in turn influenced properties of polyurethane.
