M.Tech PROJECT: “Relationship between Fiber Volume Fraction, Hounsfield Number and Ultrasonic Attenuation in Glass Fiber Reinforced Plastics”, carried out at Composite Manufacturing Division, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), Bangalore.
“Fiber volume fraction in a FRP is a very important parameter for ascertaining the strength of the laminate specifically in dynamic composite parts. It is found that a variation in fiber volume fraction from desired level results in drastic reduction in laminar shear stress in dynamic condition. This emphasizes a need for finding out an indirect method like NDT technique to find out fiber volume in a component in general and at a particular place in the component”.
“This project highlights C.T.Scan techniques, which can be explored and used to find out the fiber volume fraction by establishing the relationship between fiber volume fraction and Hounsfield values”.
